If you happen to find yourself here at Harrah’s Resort SoCal on Saturday, March 19 you might notice something is a little different. Our usual bright purple glow and twinkling “Harrah’s” sign will be noticeably dark in honor of Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a global initiative designed by the World Wildlife Fund to bring awareness and action to the climate change problem currently facing our planet. We will unite with our sister properties and thousands of people and organizations throughout the world by turning off all non-essential lighting at 8:30pm and it will remain off for one hour.
While us turning off our exterior lights for just an hour might not seem like it would make a big difference, when we are united with the world the results are huge! In 2015 over 600,000 individuals and 10,000 landmarks in over 172 countries participated in Earth Hour. And with those numbers expected to grow even more in 2016, one hour can make a real impact.
But being environmentally friendly also extends beyond this hour. Everyday, all across the Caesars Entertainment company and here at our property we strive to be environmentally conscious. From doing things as simple as turning off the lights in an empty room to much bigger things like harvesting the energy from our solar panels to run our HVAC systems, we are always looking for ways to lessen our impact on the environment.
Here at Harrah’s Resort Southern California we firmly believe that all of these changes have been essential in making us a leader in environmentally conscious choices. So if you are passing by the resort between 8:30pm – 9:30pm on March 19 you’ll know the dimmer appearance is our way of uniting with thousands of others to shine a light on global climate change.
