At Harrah’s Resort Southern California, providing a Funner time goes hand in hand with their commitment to the environment. For Earth Month let’s take a moment to fill you in on some of the extraordinary ways Funner, CA goes all-in for Mother Earth.
Codegreen
At Harrah’s Resort SoCal earth-friendly fun has been a priority for 20 years through Codegreen, a company-wide sustainability program. Codegreen includes a wide range of initiatives, programs and overall fun ways to make Mother Earth a VIP. From opening the first SoCal casino solar field in 2010 to large-scale recycling programs that include everything from kitchen oil to water bottles, Codegreen has made some big impacts.
Through this program Harrah’s Resort SoCal has…
Generated 19,000,000 KWH of solar energy to use around the resort. This is equal to 222,644 tree seedlings grown over 10 years
Decreased water usage by 6%, roughly saving 2.3 million gallons of water per year
Regularly recycling 48 tons of materials per month
Saved $1,000,000 in energy costs by switching 98% of all lighting around the resort to earth-friendly LEDs
Earth Hour
Every year for one hour, businesses and individuals across the globe are encouraged to turn off their lights to turn up the power for Mother Earth. This is part of the global initiative started by the World Wildlife Fund. In 2023 Harrah's Resort SoCal powered down all non essential lights for one hour, marking the twelfth year for showing their support for the planet on Earth Hour.
Volunteering for the community and beyond
Spreading the love for Mother Earth takes a village. And Harrah’s Resort SoCal team members are consistently volunteering their time to eco-friendly causes that they care about. Their most recent efforts include a lake clean-up event at Lake Wohlford on Earth Day.
Additionally, April isn’t just Earth Month - it’s National Volunteer Month too! Not only did helpful team members volunteer for the planet, but they also chipped in to help others in the community as well. On April 19, Harrah’s Resort SoCal partnered with Clean the World to pack 200 hygiene kits and boxed lunches. All were delivered to Interfaith Community Services in Escondido and distributed to their homeless clients.
Electric Car Charging Stations
Because Harrah’s Resort SoCal guests are eco-fans too, anyone who visits Funner with an electric vehicle has the chance to charge up. There are seven free-of-charge charging stations located just outside of the parking garage (easy to find thanks to the brightly colored Codegreen wall!). These are in addition to charging stations located on every level of the parking garage, which are available for a small fee.
As you can see, the commitment Harrah’s Resort SoCal makes to sustainability is no gamble! From reducing waste, conserving resources and promoting a healthier planet the team is consistently looking for earth-friendly ways to make Mother Earth a VIP. Together, we can make a difference - one green initiative at a time!
