Celebrate this delicious holiday the Harrah’s Resort SoCal way.

What do you mean National Margarita Day isn’t a federal holiday? A day dedicated to the enjoyment of one of the most delicious alcoholic beverages known to man and we still have to go to work? Sigh, well we suppose that’s what Happy Hour was invented for.

Speaking of invention, do you know who invented the very first margarita?

Neither do we.

In fact, no one really knows who came up with the idea to add the smoothness of tequila with the citrusy flavor of triple sec, the tang of lime juice and a little salt around the rim … but we are sure glad they did.

Pretty much the only well documented fact about the margarita doesn’t appear until 1971, when a restaurant owner from Dallas, Texas named Mariano Martinez invented the first ever frozen margarita machine. Can you say game changer?

That magical machine was deemed so historically significant that it is currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

But no matter the history, or lack thereof, we love margaritas—especially big ones. Which is why our favorite margarita here has to be our signature giant 44 ounce ‘ritanator from ‘ritas Cantina. So in case you can’t make it to Harrah’s Resort SoCal to celebrate this serendipitous occasion, we would like share with you the only recipe we believe is worthy of National Margarita Day. So find yourself a very big glass and get to sippin’!
